Will it edit my docs?
No — it only reads them. Any output, like a drafted report, is a separate draft that waits for your approval, and your original doc is never modified.
Does it read my whole Google Drive?
No — only the specific docs or folders you connect. Nothing else in your Drive is in scope.
How is this different from just copying a doc into a prompt myself?
