When Gemini in Gmail is the better tool.

If you're in the US on a personal Google Account, Gemini's drafting is available at no extra cost — and if you already pay for Google Workspace, it's listed from Business Starter upward, so you may be paying for it already. It's well-built, it summarizes long threads properly, and Gmail's Nudges and Smart Reply cover a lot of ground. For plenty of people that's enough, and a private beta is a worse bet than a feature already in the inbox they open daily. Partly — it depends on your account and your country. Google states you can use “Help me write” with “a personal Google Account: available in supported languages, but restricted to the US only,” or with “an eligible Google Workspace or Google AI plan,” which is “available in multiple supported languages globally.” On the paid side, Google lists Gemini in Gmail from Workspace Business Starter ($7/user/month) and with Google AI Plus ($9.99/month) or Pro ($19.99/month) (support.google.com, workspace.google.com/pricing, one.google.com/about/plans, checked 1 Aug 2026).

Is Gemini in Gmail good enough, or do I need something more?

Does Gemini train on my email?

Google states Gemini in Gmail “doesn't use your content to train or improve Gemini or other generative AI models,” and “doesn't store your prompt or the generated output without your permission.” Workspace data, it adds, “is not reviewed by humans or used for generative AI model training outside your domain without permission.” One caveat in Google's own words: a personal account that opts to “share data … with Gemini Apps or Search services for Personal Intelligence” has that data processed under “their respective terms and policies,” where it “may be used for model training and improvement” (support.google.com, workspace.google.com/security/ai-privacy, checked 1 Aug 2026).
